German solar PV module manufacturer AE Solar GmbH said it is launching the company’s new solar module manufacturing facility with 500 MW annual production capacity in the Eastern European country of Georgia. The facility in Kutaisi, Georgia uses fully automated robotic lines on 16,000 square meter space.

With this line, AE Solar’s total production capacity exceeds 1 GW. The management said this highlights the company’s move toward expanding its production network in strategic locations that allow for duty-free or preferential deliveries to Europe, North and South America, Turkey, India and all other nations with €1 certifications preferences.

The manufacturing process at the new facility is being carried out under the supervision of the company’s German engineers and technicians based out of its German headquarters and its local Georgian branch.

“Our launch in Georgia is an important milestone. We have managed to defy any fluctuations in the solar industry while maintaining rapid and stable growth. We now have a total capacity of over 1 GW – four times more than we had 18 months ago and are on track to become the largest European solar module manufacturer with its own capacities,” said AE Solar CEO Alexander Maier.

AE Solar mentions on its website its other manufacturing locations, which are in China with 525 MW PV modules manufacturing capacity, in a joint venture manufacturing for 200 MW modules in Vietnam, and now the 500 MW Georgian fab.

Back in October 2018, local Georgian media reported about the company’s plans to launch the 500 MW facility, which would fulfil domestic module requirements and also serve the United States, Persian Gulf and Europe.
